Business groups to Aust Govt: show us evidence of 457 rorts

Updated 25 February 2013, 16:47 AEST

Australian employer groups fear a government crackdown on 457 foreign skilled worker visas will make it tougher for companies to bring in overseas workers and could put some high value projects at risk.

The government announced on the weekend that it was planning to further tighten the rules over its 457 temporary visa scheme for overseas workers.

When the Immigration Minister Brendan O'Connor announced the changes on the weekend, he said that there were examples of abuse and rorts.

The business community says the government should show them the evidence.
