Malaysian MP dismissed from leading Islamist party

Updated 31 January 2013, 15:00 AEST

A Malaysian MP has been dismissed from the country's leading Islamist party following a recent trip he made to Gaza with Prime Minister, Najib Razak.

Earlier this month, Nasharudin Mat Isa, the former deputy president of PAS was sacked from the party's governing council.

One of the reasons given for Mr Nasharudin's sacking was that he had failed to attend council meetings.

But critics say the action against the PAS leader is a result of his suspected political 'cooperation' with the ruling UMNO party.
