Chinese company moves fast on Taiwan investment

The rapidly improving cross strait relations between China and Taiwan is also having its effects in the business world, with a deal giving a chinese company a significant stake in a Taiwanese telecoms company struck only days after restrictions on cross-strait investment were lifted.
Only two days ago, Taiwan and China signed a landmark agreement to promote mainland Chinese investment on the island for the first time since 1949.
This first deal under the new rules is, significantly, in the telecommunications sector and the political overtones are clear.
