US backs tuna trade ban
Updated
Sushi-lovers in Japan could be in for shock if a proposed international trade ban on Northern - or Atlantic - bluefin tuna goes ahead.
The United States has announced it will support the ban when it's put to a vote at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species later this month. But Japan, the biggest consumer of the fish, has already indicated it may not even honour the ban if it goes ahead. There are also fears a ban on northern blufin could encourage black market operators to chase Southern and Pacific bluefin.
