Gas co-op in West Australia to kick-start investment
Updated
One of Australia's biggest natural gas deals is one step closer to become a reality after the Indigenous people of Western Australia's Kimberley region accepted a $A1 billion deal for a giant gas project.
The in-principle agreement between governments and miners will see the development of a processing hub for gas from the Browse Basin to be built just north of Broome. The deal includes housing, health and education opportunities for Indigenous people. The settlement also makes way for international investors, such as Japan, to re-enter the region.
