Indian students demand more protection from violent crime

The past ten years have seen a sharp rise in the number of Indians living in Melbourne, largely through the arrival of students from South Asia, and also through migration.
Over the past few months, there've also been a rise in violent crimes against Indian students living in Australia - which some have described as an "epidemic". Last week, a help line to assist Indian students who've been targetted by criminals began operating, amid mounting alarm over violent racist attacks - especially in Melbourne's western suburbs. Many students are living in fear and rethinking their decision to live and study in Australia.
