Jail term expected fo Suu Kyi

Updated May 25, 2009 12:48:55

It could be several weeks before Burma's pro-democracy hero, Aung San Suu Kyi, knows her fate but it's a fair assumption she's been found guilty of trumped up charges, and that they will sideline her from next year's national elections.

Burma's military junta charged the 63-year-old with breaching the terms of her home detention after an American man entered her home illegally earlier this month without her knowledge and she allowed him to stay at the house overnight. Today her defence team will begin outlining its case in a trial that has attracted international anger and dismay.

Presenter: Karen Percy
Speaker: Han Tha Myint, National League for Democracy spokesman
