International reaction to Uighur protest violence

The UN and European Union have expressed concern over the clashes in China's Xinjiang province, urging the Chinese government to show restraint in dealing with the unrest.
The US Obama Administration says it regrets the loss of life in Xinjiang. However, the relations between the US government and the Uighur people are delicate because the US detained 17 Uighurs at Guantanamo Bay and 13 are still imprisoned there despite court rulings that they are not enemy combatants.
