Like many export-dependent countries, Taiwan's economy has slumped because of the global financial crisis.
Amidst the downturn, Taiwan's government is working hard to persuade the island's people that further trade liberalisation with China will be good for it. But its aggressive promotion is being met with a wave of resistance.
