Vietnam detains opposition activists, including US citizen
Updated
A crackdown on opposition activists in Vietnam in the past two months has landed nine members of the Democratic Party of Vietnam in detention.
The Party says a US citizen, Vo Tan Huan, is the latest party member to have been arrested, and says the US State Department is monitoring the situation. One diplomat has reportedly described the arrests as having a Chinese element, while the Democratic Party says they contravene Vietnamese and international law.
NOTE: Vo Tan Huan has now been expelled from Vietnam for trying to "incite unrest", according to local media.
