Peacekeepers to phase out of East Timor: UN envoy
Updated
The current head of the UN mission in East Timor, Atul Khare, says he'd like to see a gradual, phased wind-down of the peacekeeping operation in the country, starting early next year.
He says the UN has learnt many lessons from the upheavals of 2006, and other UN aid agencies will have to stay in East Timor for a fairly long time to come.
