New houses for Australia's 'town camps'
Updated
The Australian Government is promising to fix up so-called 'town camps', by building 85 new houses and bringing infrastructure up to the same standard as that in other parts of the central desert town of Alice Springs.
The communities, located outside of Alice Springs, are notorious for chronic overcrowding and for high rates of violence and abuse. But the indigenous residents in the camps say their problems run deeper than just bricks and mortar.
Presenter: Sara Everingham
Speakers: Kevin Wirri, Aboriginal artist and long term resident of Abbott's camp; Bob Durnan, former manager with the Tangentyere Council
