Rescue efforts continue in flooded Manila
Updated
Disaster response workers have been overwhelmed by the sheer scale of flooding in the Philippines capital Manila, after tropical storm Ketsana dumped a month's worth of rain over a 12-hour period on the weekend.
Aid agencies are helping with the rescue effort, after 140 people were killed, half a million left homeless and access roads to deliver help were blocked. The deluge caught the government and weather experts completely offguard, sending around six metres of water surging through suburbs and shanty towns in and around Manila.
