Indonesia deports Greenpeace activists
Updated
A group of Indonesian villagers have rallied together to force officials not to proceed with plans to close down an environmental camp in the jungle.
Local and international Greenpeace activists have been camping out since mid-October to raise awareness about deforestation and climate change. Local authorities in the eastern province of Riau became involved on the weekend when the activists chained themselves to digging machinery. Eleven foreign activists have so far been deported. But late yesterday, police raided the camp for a second time and have detained more Indonesians and foreigners.
Local villagers are again congreagting around the came to show their support.
