Vietnamese Catholic priest and human rights campaigner, Father Nguyen Van Ly, has suffered a second stroke.

The 63 year old priest is a prominent advocate for religious freedom in Vietnam. He was convicted in 2007 for allegedly disseminating anti-government propaganda and sentenced to eight years in prison and five years of house arrest. Advocacy group, Freedom Now, is calling on the Vietnamese government to release Father Ly so he can receive medical care and to see his family.
