Sri Lanka to change constitution for president

Sri Lanka's president has secured the two thirds majority he needs to radically change the country's constitution.
With the backing of cabinet and the support of opposition parliamentarians the amendments look set to proceed - possibly within days. Mahinda Rajapaksa is seeking to abolish the two term limit for presidents and gain control of powerful appointments, including the head of the police and the judiciary.
