The role of emergency architects
Updated
When natural disaster strikes, the immediate needs are obvious, safe shelter, food, medicines.
Good architecture is not something that springs immediately to mind but experts say it plays a key role in the long-term recovery of strickened communities. The not for profit group Emergency Architects helps to redesign and rebuild homes and even entire towns, after a tsunami or earthquake hits. The group played a major role in rebuilding Aceh after the 2004 tsunami ... including houses, fishing trawlers, roads and port infrastructure. The team from Emergency Architects also provided training.
