Ancaman kebakaran hutan telah mereda di Tasmania, namun ribuan penduduk terjebak dan sebagian kehilangan segalanya, setelah lebih dari 100 rumah musnah dimakan api.
Ribuan penduduk dan turis terjebak di berbagai bagian Tasmania setelah kebakaran hutan memusnahkan lebih dari 100 properti dan mengisolir komunitas-komunitas.
Ancaman kebakaran hutan telah mereda tapi pihak berwenang memperingatkan penduduk untuk tetap waspada karena api masih terus membara.
Peringatan siaga kebakaran hutan saat ini berlaku untuk Forcett dan Lake Repulse.
Ratusan orang terjebak di Tasman Peninsula selama dua hari setelah kebakaran hutan di timur Hobart mengisolir daerah itu.
Penduduk dan turis diangkut dengan kapal dari semenanjung itu ke Hobart.
Walikota Hobart, Damon Thomas, mengatakan, gedung balai kota telah dibuka sebagai pusat evakuasi.
"Para pengungsi diurus oleh Palang Merah dan badan-badan lainnya, dan tersedia berbagai layanan, termasuk akomodasi darurat," katanya.
Kota Dunalley di timur Hobart adalah yang paling parah menderita dampak kebakaran hutan pada hari Jum'at dan 65 properti dan sekolah lokal musnah.
Pejabat pemadam kebakaran Tasmania, Mike Brown, mengatakan, kehancuran yang terjadi merupakan pemandangan tragis.
"Diperkirakan 30 atau 40 persen properti di Dunalley telah musnah oleh kebakaran," katanya.
Ike Kelly memiliki penggergajian kayu yang musnah dalam kebakaran itu.
"Kebakaran menghancurkan bisnis saya yang bernilai $4 atau $5 juta. 50 tahun dari hidup saya hilang," katanya.
Nick Wardlaw, pemilik Penguin Tours dekat Bicheno mengatakan, sebagian penduduk di daerah Courland Bay kehilangan segalanya setelah kebakaran hutan disana.
"Mereka lari hanya dengan pakaian yang melekat di badan dan tidak punya apa-apa lagi, dan mereka saat ini kamping dengan teman-teman," katanya.
