The CEO of Radio Australia, Mike McCluskey, chooses to ride a bike even though he has a car. He does this partly to get the exercise, but also to help the environment.
Lily Yan, one of our Learn English producers, says she feels guilty driving to work every day compared to what Mike does. And Hayden Dekker, an audio technician with Radio Australia, loves his motorbike so much that he gives it a name!
Many people also travel to work by public transport and they often meet interesting people along the way. Manny Maung, a journalist at ABC, catches trains daily to work. Every morning, she gets to meet Stephen, the station staff member with a ‘great long white beard’ who helps people find out which trains to take. It was sad news for Manny when she heard that Stephen resigned.
English Learning producer, Julia Scott, catches trams. And, like Manny, she often gets to meet interesting and friendly people (including those who helped her when she fell over on the tram!).
And Hayden Dekker, an audio technician with Radio Australia, loves his motorbike so much that he gives it a name! What did he call it? Click on the audio links to hear Hayden and the others tell their communiting stories.
Why don't you also share your story of travelling to work or school in the comments area below. Do you have a name for your vehicle? How is the traffic in your city?
