Iraq's most wanted man is reported to have been wounded.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is blamed by US and Iraqi authorities for much of the insurgent violence in Iraq.

The militant group, al-Qaeda in Iraq, says it's Jordanian-born leader has been injured in the path of god, and urged all Muslims to pray for him.

The website statement gave no details.

But a spokesman for U.S. forces in Iraq says such reports have been heard frequently before, and are impossible to verify.

The Pentagon says it can't confirm or deny the report.
