Vietnam, Nauru sign agreement to establish diplomatic ties

Vietnam and Nauru have signed an agreement to establish diplomatic ties.

The Vietnam News Agency says the head of the of the Vietnamese mission to the United Nations, Ambassador Le Luong Minh and his Nauru counterpart, Marlene Moses, signed the agreement in New York this week.

The two ambassadors say the establishment of diplomatic ties opens bilateral friendly cooperation and enhances the friendship and mutual understanding between Vietnamese and Nauru people.

Nauru, which is the world's smallest independent republic, joined the United Nations in 1999.
