A French Polynesian fishing company says it is moving its boats to Niue to take advantage of better conditions there.

The Pacific Fishing company says its boats have been under-employed in French Polynesia while Niue has resources which haven't been fished for about 14 years.

Pacific news service, Pacnews, says the Niue government has granted five long liners from Pacific Fishing a one-year licence to operate in its exclusive economic zone.

The company will provide fish for the Niue Fish Processing factory which is operated as a joint venture by the Niue government and New Zealand company, Reef Shipping.
