Indonesia has protested to Papua New Guinea after an Indonesian fisherman died in a border shooting incident.

Jakarta says the PNG military shot the man while he was working on a boat with nine others in Indonesian waters.

Two other men are said to have been seriously injured.

PNG's ambassador to Jakarta has been summoned to the Indonesian foreign ministry over the incident and has promised the shooting will be investigated.

A foreign ministry spokesman, Desra Percaya, has described the shooting as unprovoked and "unjustifiable".
