In Australia, a spokesman for the Sydney Muslim cleric Sheikh Taj el-Din al-Hilali says the mufti is relieved he has been cleared of financing the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

The Australian Federal Police have sent a letter to the Lebanese Muslim Association saying they have no evidence Sheikh al-Hilali diverted chaitable funds to the group.

Keysar Trad says the cleric feels he was the victim of a media beat-up.

"They were really taken for a ride by a person with a grudge," Keysar Trad said.

"And that person, if any media agency can identify them, I'd certainly hope they'd give that name to the federal police so they can investigate".
