Australia considers banning cannabis equipment

The Australian government will look at banning the import of cannabis equipment, in a paper to be presented in December.

Federal minister, Christopher Pyne, made the announcement at a meeting of the Ministerial Council on Drug Strategy in the city of Adelaide today.

He says the report will also examine how the advertising and sale of equipment used to smoke the drug cannabis can be regulated.

He says the fact some of the equipment is also used to smoke tobacco should not stop a crackdown.

"Hiding behind the idea that some of these products might be used for legitimate products [and] legitimate practices flies in the face of common sense," he said.

"I think the mums and dads of Australia expect us to take firm action".
