The Niue Government is planning to pass its $US16 million budget in one sitting this week.

New Zealand says it will contribute $US5.5 million, and an additional $US2.3 million for special projects including airline subsidies, asset management and replacement, and support for NGOs.

After the budget is passed consumers can expect a price rise of 10 cents for each unit of electricity, to pay for mounting diesel generating costs.

Niue's finance minister says he's also considering dropping a fortnightly benefit to residents between the ages of 51 and 60.

However more than 400 public servants, who had their wages cut by 10 percent earlier this year, will have them restored next month.
