The United States has applauded the killing of Hezbollah leader Imad Moughniyah in a car bomb in Damascus, calling him a cold-blooded murderer responsible for many deaths.

A spokesman for the State Department in Washington says the world is a better place without him.

The Hezbollah commander was on America's most-wanted list for attacks on Israeli and Western targets.

Hezbollah has accused Israel of being behind the attack.

Israel has denied involvement.
