Fiji's newly constituted Great Council of Chiefs is ready to be convened as soon as the interim prime minister sees fit, according to the chairman of the GCC taskforce.

Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo told the Fiji Times that he's informed Commodore Frank Bainimarama his team is ready to assemble the GCC.

Under a new law passed this year, the Minister for Fijian Affairs becomes the chairperson of the GCC.

The rest of the council is made up of three installed chiefs from each of the 14 provinces.
