Dozens of world leaders have flown into Beijing to attend the opening ceremony for the Olympics Games.

John Taylor reports from Beijing China's President Hu Jintao today greeted leaders including George W Bush, and Nicolas Sarkozy at Beijing's Great Hall of the People.

It was a networkers dream - President Hu and his wife had lunch with more than 80 world leaders.

They'll all be together again at the opening ceremony.

About 90,000 people will be in the bird's nest.

The Beijing Games have been among the most politically contentious in history, attracting protests from pro-Tibet, human rights and press freedom groups.

For the ruling Communist Party, it's a grand occasion to show the world that China is again a major power.
