Indonesia, Japan drop tsunami warnings

Indonesian authorities have withdrawn a tsunami alert after a 7.

6-magnitude earthquake in the country's east.

The quake hit this morning, northwest of North Maluku province.

There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

And in Japan a 7.0-magnitude earthquake has hit the north of the country.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued warnings of mild tsunami seismic waves.

The earthquake occurred at 9:21am local time, under the sea off Hokkaido island's Tokachi region, some 700km north of Tokyo.
