Palau's President-elect, Johnson Toribiong, says he will continue Palau's diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

In an interview with Pacific Magazine, the newly elected Palau leader says a shift in relations with Taiwan or China "would undermine Palau's integrity as a reliable and trustworthy ally in the international community".

He says from Palau's experience as a small nation he supports Taiwan's aspiration to be recognised as a sovereign nation and to be a member of the United Nations.
