Magnitude 7.7 quake strikes off Alaska

A major magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook an area in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the US state of Alaska.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no widespread tsunami threat to Hawaii.

But officials have issued a regional warning affecting the Alaskan coast in the proximity of the epicentre.

The epicentre of the quake was located 102 kilometres west of Craig, Alaska, according to the the United States Geological Survey.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
