Jakarta-born Karina Utomo is forging musical links between Australia and Indonesia with a heady mix of heavy metal punk as her soundtrack, and she's winning fans in both countries.

As the lead singer with Melbourne band High Tension, Karina Utomo is the face of a unique cross-cultural musical experience.

Growing up in Jakarta with limited access to contemporary music, it wasn't until she moved to Australia with her family that she discovered the hardcore punk music scene and caught the bug.

She soon became a fixture of Australia's punk underground with her band Young and Restless and toured successfully in Australia and Indonesia, sometimes singing in Bahasa to the delight of local fans.

After exposure on Australian TV and radio, including an appearance on the popular SBS TV show 'Rockwiz',  Karina moved to Australia's live music capital, Melbourne, and formed a new band High Tension. We meet Karina and the band as they showcase material from a brand new album and prepare for a national tour, and discover her dream of taking High Tension to Indonesia where metal and punk is growing in popularity.
