Sophia Martini, who died after falling off the back of a scooter being driven by her boyfriend, was due to get married when she returned to Australia.

A Queensland woman killed in Bali after falling off the back of a scooter was due to get married when she returned to Australia.

Sophia Fiorella Martini, 27, fell from the bike that was being driven by her boyfriend in the early hours of Monday morning.

She suffered serious leg injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Denpasar hospital.

The Australian man was initially named a suspect but has since been released and has now returned to Australia, according to Bali police.

"The girl's mother doesn't want to make a case because both of them were about to get married," said Rahmawaty Ismail, the chief of Traffic Police in Denpasar.

"However, the suspect promised to return if the police call for a further investigation."

Yesterday, Maggie Island Bootcamp posted a tribute on Facebook to Ms Martini, who attended classes at the fitness centre.

"We will all miss Soph terribly, a shining light of fun and always smiling," the post said.

"She particularly liked the most challenging of work outs, pushing herself and encouraging others along with her with that determined gentle spirit.

"We love you Soph and will never forget you. Rest in peace."
