Each week we offer an Open Thread, where you can offer your thoughts, opinions and questions about anything at all.
You might like to talk about the trending news topics.
For example, our most popular story for comments so far this week has been Sam Dastyari warning of a rise in white nationalism after he was ambushed members of a far-right group, which amassed 435 comments and 1,330 likes.
But if you're tired of discussing the news, you can use this Open Thread as a chance to ask more questions or tell us what you want to see more of.
Here are some of the top comments from last week's Open Thread:
I would like to comment the environmental defenders who held logging machinery at bay while court injunctions were put in place to protect some of the last remaining old growth forests in Victoria. Endangered species of flora & fauna are being sacrificed, and local tourism operators are left astounded at the actions of government propping up an industry that should have been making plans to transition into plantations decades ago. Citizen scientists and EJA lawyers should be hailed for protecting our natural environment from plunder. — JLW
I am very concerned at the continuing levels of poverty in our country but even more at the apathy the general community has towards those living in poverty, as if it were a moral failing to be poor. Unemployment places people on the dole which is scandalously low, as if those people are being punished for having no job. Structural unemployment, the GFC, no access to affordable training ... there is no respect or compassion. It's easy to be kind when times are good, but it's the measure of your character if you are decent to your fellow human being when times are tough. I'm 60 and have survived several recessions. This time, not only is the government cruel, but society is too. — Mmmal
