Afghan president Hamid Karzai has met with a Pakistani cleric linked to Taliban insurgents.

The meeting took place at the close of Mr Karzai's visit to Pakistan.

It marks the first public contact between an Afghan official and members of the Afghan Taliban's support network in Pakistan.

And it comes as Mr Karzai tries to find ways to bring the militant movement to the negotiating table in the hope of bringing the 10-year war to a close.

Mr Karzai also met with Pakistani Prime Minister Yousef Raza Gilani and Pakistan's Army Chief of Staff, Ashfaq Kayani.
