Black Face White Mask: Looking at cultural integration in Australia through theatre

Black Face White Mask is a pretty confronting play by a new theatre company - The Flemington Theatre Group from Melbourne.

The play focuses on the lives of eight young people and what it means to be Afro-Australian as they confront casual racism and family tensions.

Although the issues may make some audience members uncomfortable, they are all experiences those on stage can relate to. The actors have origins predominantly in the Horn of Africa, but they now call Australia home.

Radio Australia’s Phil Kafcaloudes spoke to Daniel Haile-Michael and Mazna Komba, two of the performers in Black Face White Mask.
