A powerful documentary tells the story of East Timor's path to democracy

It's been called the film that changed the course of a nation, Peter A Gordon's powerful documentary about East Timor's transition from Indonesian rule to independence.

The story is told through the words of some of the young democracy's main players: Xanana Gusmao, Kirsty Sword-Gusmao and Jose Ramos Horta.
Bloodshot: The Dreams and Nightmares of East Timor re-visits the 1975 invasion by Indonesia and the 1991 Santa Cruz massacre of the citizens of East Timor by the Indonesian army.
It's also a revealing insight into the challenges of a nation still in the process of healing.
Tracee Hutchison spoke to filmmaker Peter A Gordon, who says the film is important reminder of Timor's history.
