Historic feat for Australian woman conquering Explorers Grand Slam

Cheryl Bart has become the first Australian woman to complete the Explorers Grand Slam.

Which means she's reached the North Pole, the South Pole and all of the world's seven summits, which are the highest peaks of every continent in the world.

Just 3,500 people have managed to complete the challenge, out of which only 350 are women.

Cheryl Bart talks about how a trip to Mount Everest's base camp in 2000 started a love affair with climbing tall summits, reaching the ends of the earth and discovering the local culture along the way.

She also explains what's involved in making successful climbs and the indispensable role of Sherpas.

Bart says each climb changes you as a person as you are stripped of your usual environment and forced to reckon with yourself.
