Japan import ban threatens Australian blueberry farmers

Updated 18 January 2012, 15:35 AEDT

Australian blueberry farmers stand to lose out as supermarkets are expected to stock larger quantities of high quality fruit at lower prices.

Earlier this month, Japan banned Australian blueberries because of concerns they might be contaminated with Mediterranean fruit fly.

A late crop due to excessively wet conditions earlier this year has also resulted in an excess supply.
