Media group welcomes charges for Vanuatu minister

A media freedom organisation in the Pacific has welcomed the news that a cabinet minister in Vanuatu is to be charged over an alleged assault of a newspaper publisher.

Infrastructure and Public Utilities minister Harry Iauko, will appear in the Magistrates Court in Port Vila on Thursday, where it will be decided if there is a case to answer over the alleged assault of Daily Post publisher Marc Neil-Jones.

The International Federation of Journalists Pacific Media Human Rights and Democracy Project coordinator, Lisa Williams-Lahari, says the laying of charges is a positive move for Vanuatu and the whole region.
