New policies needed for women post-economic crises

While Asia is helping to lead the global economic recovery, job growth for women is not keeping pace.

High numbers of women in Asia work in vulnerable and low-paid informal work. A new report released today called Women and Labour Markets in Asia: Rebalancing for Gender Equality, has been jointly prepared by the International Labour Organization and the Asian Development Bank.

The ILO says new policies should be implemented through-out Asia that focus directly on protecting women's rights and improving work opportunities, like access to credit for opening a business.
