PNG economists suggest two sovereign wealth funds

Papua New Guinea's National Research Institute says the country should have two separate funds established under its Sovereign Wealth Fund to manage revenues from its mining projects.

A report compiled by NRI's senior research fellow Peter Johnson says two separate structures are needed to achieve a balance between the economic, political and development tradeoffs.

It says the first is a future fund which will contain the proceeds from the PNG LNG project, and the second fund will contain the revenue from all of the mining projects.

Speaker: Peter Johnson, a senior research fellow with PNG's National Research Institute
