The island nation of Kiribati has announced plans to buy about 6000 acres of land in Fiji, as the country starts to feel the effects of rising sea levels.

Kiribati President Anote Tong has stressed the purchase of the land in Vanua Levu is for food security and not for relocation.

President Tong has been discussing the challenges ahead for his nation at the 12th Suistanable Development Summit in New Delhi.

President Tong told Tracee Hutchison the land is part of his Government's longterm sustainability strategy.
