Taiwanese President Ma Ying Jeou has been re-elected for a second term at weekend elections.

His Kuomintang party won 64 of the 113 seats up for grabs in parliament ... with its main rival, the Democratic Progressive Party winning 40 seat... an improvement on the 27 seats it won in the 2008 elections.

Nonetheless, DPP leader Tsai Ing Wen resigned after losing her bid to become Taiwan's first female President.
