The United Nations has voted overwhelmingly to grant the Palestinian Authority limited recognition as a state.

Palestinians are celebrating what was a resounding show of support by voting nations.

138 countries voted in support of the resolution, with nine against, and 41 abstaining, including Australia and the U-K.
Businesses and schools across the country closed early to mark the event and celebrations spilled into Ramallah's Yasser Arafat Square.
