There's been a call for more vigilance in the Pacific to make sure the region does not become a major transit point for drug trafficking.

A border security conference in Melbourne has been told the huge number of yachts sailing in the region represent a major security concern.

A lack of resources to check the vessels and sometimes the absence of legislation in some countries are also concerns.

There have also been a growing number of cases of commecial fraud in the region.
