Updated 7 March 2012, 15:45 AEDT

The incidence of HIV/AIDS in the Indonesian provinces of Papua and Papua Barat is said to be 20 times greater than the rest of Indonesia.

And it's the young people, those aged 15 - 49, who are most at risk.

An education program has been underway for several years to try to curtail the rapid spread of HIV/AIDS through young people having unprotected sex with multiple partners.

Presenter: Brian Abbott

Speaker: Severine Leonardi, HIV/AIDS specialist with UNICEF Indonesia
