Asia Review 26th July 2014

Updated 25 July 2014, 15:24 AEST

This week on Asia Review: Radio Australia was a prominent part of the 1,000 strong media contingent at AIDS 2014. Of 36 million people affected by HIV worldwide, almost five million are in the Asia Pacific region.

AIDS 2014 brought together 12,000 people to Melbourne - each person representing one of three 'pillars' crucial in the fight against HIV-AIDS, including researchers and  scientists, government leaders and communities touched by HIV.
It was a much-anticipated meeting - at a time of impressive progress in the fight against the virus. But as the 12,000 world delegates gathered in Melbourne, their thoughts were on the six colleagues who died when MH17 was shot down over Ukraine. The tragedy strengthened the participants' resolve to have a productive meeting.
ASIA PACIFIC broadcast 'live' from the Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre, with a special extended edition, including personal stories and insights from the region.
'Step Up The Pace' was the theme of AIDS 2014, and if you missed us on Thursday, here's a sampling.
