Burma urged to end air strikes in Kachin state

Updated 4 January 2013, 22:32 AEDT

The United Nations and the United States have urged the Burmese government to end air strikes against ethnic minority rebels in the northern state of Kachin.

The attacks are understood to have begun several weeks ago, but the government only admitted it after a humanitarian group - the Free Burma Rangers - released a video of the aerial bombings to British journalists. The conflict is threatening to over shadow Burma's achievements on political reforms.

Presenter: Kanaha Sabapathy

Speakers: Naw Din Lehpai, editor, Kachin News Group; Sidney Lazum, president of the NSW branch of the Kachin Association of Australia; Moon Nay Li, Kachin Women's Association in Thailand
